TONY DESTEFANO

Certified Public Accountant

“Distinguished CPA and DCAA specialist”

Tony Destefano started working in accounting in 1974 when he worked as an Internal Auditor for W.T. Grant Co. to investigate fraud at the stores.  When W.T. Grant Co. went bankrupt, began attending college full time and went to work for a CPA firm preparing taxes and financial statements until 1980.

Tony left work for about six months and went to work in politics in 1980 and was then given a job at the Pentagon Budget Office.  He helped create the Strategic Defense Initiative for the president and was then transferred to work as a civil service worker for the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) in late 1981 to audit government contractors.

After passing his CPA Exam he worked as a corporate controller, benefit plan admin., security officer for a Top Secret facility and office manager for a State Department contractor.  After that, he went to work for a 12 billion dollar defense contractor (Westinghouse Electric) as a Government Compliance Auditor and then left to work as a Senior Consultant to many defense contractors, performing due diligence audits for acquisitions, designing compliant accounting systems for commercial and nonprofit clients, preparing and negotiating incurred cost submissions to DCAA, helping contractors comply with the Cost Accounting Standards and preparing Disclosure Statements and preparing a claim to convert a termination for default to a termination for convenience and then preparing the termination settlement proposal.

In the interim, between 1995 and 2006, Tony worked in the government as a contract specialist negotiating and awarding construction contracts for the Corps of Engineers, and again for DCAA for six years.  He retired in 2006 and picked up consulting work once again.  He worked for DCAA to get up-to-date on their policies and practices.

Tony attended Camden County College and earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and then transferred to Rowan University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree.  He graduated with honors and with no student debt.
